The White Cliffs are considered to be a symbol of England. The White Cliffs are also the cradle of English poetry, history and literature. The White Cliffs can be found in the beautiful lyrical poetry of English poet Matthew Arnold and in the writing of Shakespeare, the master of drama.

Why were the White Cliffs formed?
Spanning hundreds of millions of years from the ancient Cretaceous period, the White Cliffs stand silently at the southern tip, guarding this beautiful island of Great Britain. Many people will wonder how the White Cliffs were formed.

The cliffs of the White Cliffs are mainly made up of white chalk, which is actually built up by tiny marine micro-organisms at a rate of 0.015 millimeters per year. The chalk is mainly made up of calcareous ultramafic Ules of coccoliths and a few other planktonic foraminifers, the remains of which were slowly deposited on the ocean floor, gradually forming the chalk layer. These deposited chalk layers slowly formed distinctive cliffs as a result of the erosion of the sea and the constant movement of the earth's crust.

These typical chalk cliffs can be found in many parts of the UK and north-western Europe, but it is the UK that is best known for its white cliffs. The White Cliffs of the UK are also known as one of the ten most beautiful natural landscapes in the world. Here's a look at some of the most beautiful white cliffs in the UK that you must see!

The White Cliffs of Dover are 5 kilometres long and reach a height of 152 metres, making them a spectacularly beautiful sight. The White Cliffs of Dover were mentioned in Act IV of Shakespeare's King Lear, which is why a section of the cliffs of Dover was specially named the "Shakespeare's Cliffs" by the British.

The white cliffs of Bikini Point are the world's fourth largest 'suicide mecca' after Mount Fuji, the Golden Gate Bridge and Niagara Falls. The towering 'cloud cliffs' make it truly the 'closest place to heaven'. On the white cliffs of Bikini Point, there is also a beautiful lighthouse in the sea to show the way to those who have lost their way. We recommend that you come when you are in the right mood and don't subject this beautiful place to too many more wounds that don't belong to it.
